Inspiring Faith, Transforming Lives Through God's Word

Leviticus 1–3 Really Made Me Appreciate Jesus

I just finished reading Leviticus chapters 1–3 and honestly… all I kept thinking was: “Jesus Christ THANK YOU.” Because the amount of sacrifices happening there? Ah. No wonder the priests stayed busy.
Burnt offerings.
Grain offerings.
Peace offerings.
Blood everywhere.
Morning sacrifices.
Evening sacrifices.
Animals constantly being brought to the altar.
At one point I was reading and thought: “Imagine if this was still our reality today?”

Some of us struggle to wake up for morning devotion already 😭 imagine having to carry goats, bulls, lambs, flour, oil, and then queue behind somebody bringing their own sacrifice because they sinned again. Honestly, animal rights activists would not survive the Old Testament. But jokes aside, Leviticus made me deeply appreciate what Jesus did on the cross.

Sin Was Never Small To God

One thing this chapter shows clearly is that approaching God was not casual business. Everything had instructions:
– which animal,
– how to offer it,
– where the blood goes,
– what gets burned,
– what must be clean,
– what was acceptable before God.
Nothing was random. And honestly, the repetition alone shows how serious sin is before a holy God.

Today people treat sin casually because grace is available freely through Christ. But reading Leviticus reminds you that sin was costly. Something always had to die. Which is why Jesus changes everything.

Jesus Became The Final Sacrifice

The animals in Leviticus were only temporary coverings. But Jesus became the perfect and final sacrifice once and for all.

The priests kept sacrificing daily. Jesus died once.

The altar kept burning continuously. Jesus finished the work completely.

People had to repeatedly bring offerings. Jesus offered Himself.

Honestly, Leviticus makes the statement: “It is finished” hit differently. Because after reading all these sacrifices, you realize humanity truly needed a permanent solution.

The Burnt Offering

The burnt offering was fully consumed on the altar. Nothing was held back. And immediately I thought about Romans 12: “presenting ourselves as living sacrifices.”
God is no longer asking us to bring goats. Thank God because where in London am I finding a lamb every morning please? 😭

Now the sacrifice is:
– our obedience,
– our surrender,
– our lifestyle,
– our hearts,
– our choices,
– our devotion.
The altar today is no longer outside somewhere in a tabernacle. In many ways, WE become the offering.

The Grain Offering

The grain offering also stood out to me because there was no blood involved. It represented thanksgiving and dedication. It reminded me that worship is not just slow songs and lifted hands in church.
– Your work can worship God.
– Your service can worship God.
– Your discipline can worship God.
– Your generosity can worship God.
– Even how you treat people matters to God.
Leviticus is teaching us that worship was always meant to involve the whole life.

The Peace Offering

The peace offering symbolized fellowship and restored relationship with God. And honestly this part made me emotional because today we have direct access to God through Jesus Christ. Back then:
– not everyone could enter,
– not everyone could approach,
– priests stood in between,
– sacrifices had to be made constantly.

Today? You can literally wake up from bed with messy hair, sleepy eyes and still start talking to God immediately 😭
– No waiting outside the courts.
– No carrying animals.
– No yearly queue for atonement.
Jesus truly changed everything.

And sometimes I think modern Christians forget the magnitude of that access.

Leviticus Actually Made Me More Grateful

I know people joke that Leviticus is “the hard part” of the Bible 😅 but honestly if you slow down and read it properly, it makes the cross more beautiful. Because you start realizing:
– holiness matters,
– sin is serious,
– worship is intentional,
– and grace is expensive.
Jesus did not die so we could live carelessly. He died so we could finally be reconciled to God fully.

Leviticus may look like a book full of sacrifices, but underneath it all is a God who deeply desired relationship with His people. And honestly? Reading it made me grateful we are living under grace. Because if not, some of us would accidentally forget our sacrifice at home and have to walk back with the goat 😭

Pray with me:
Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that fulfilled what all these offerings pointed toward. Teach me to live as a living sacrifice- holy, surrendered, grateful, and devoted to You. Help me never to take grace for granted or treat Your presence casually. Let my life honor You daily in worship, obedience, and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
