Evil Speaking – Are You Guilty?

“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking.” — 1 Peter 2:1

Pause for a moment and reflect on this verse. Which of these am I guilty of?

Evil Speaking—Are You Guilty?

As I meditated on this scripture, my focus was drawn to evil speaking. We may be quick to deny malice, envy, hypocrisy, or deceit, but what about the words we speak—especially against ourselves?

Too often, we unknowingly curse our own lives with our words. You cannot speak negatively about your path, your environment, or your future and still expect to walk in blessings. When darkness covered the earth, God didn’t describe the darkness – He spoke light into existence. What are you saying about your circumstances? When others declare defeat and despair, do you join them, or do you speak life?

The Power of Your Words

Proverbs 18:20–21 reminds us:
“From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

1 Peter 3:10 says:
“For whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.”

Want to See Good Days? Change Your Words!

Your tongue has the power to shape your reality. Hebrews 11:3 reinforces this truth:
“Because of faith, we understand how God made the universe. He spoke His word to make it happen. In that way, God made all the things that we can see from things that nobody could see.”

How many times have you spoken yourself into destruction? Can you even count? Your words are seeds, and whatever a person sows, they will surely reap. Galatians 6:7

Guard Your Words and Speak with Purpose

Your words are not just sounds; they are seeds that shape your future. If you want to see a life filled with blessings, start by speaking words that align with God’s truth.

Choose faith over fear. Speak victory instead of defeat. Declare God’s promises rather than dwelling on problems.

Let your mouth be a fountain of life, encouragement, and faith. Mind your utterances, and watch how God transforms your world!
