Be Fruitful Not Busy

Written by Kemi A Davies

We are called to service as Christians, and I am sure many of us do it, wholeheartedly, with all our love and prayers and as much as we can. We are called to serve in the house of God and I am also sure that many of us do it with vigour, joy and wholeheartedly as well. We are called to serve – but when was the last time you checked your motives for service?

Has it become the usual thing to do? Are you doing it because you already signed up to the team? Are you doing it because if you don’t, the team or job will all fall apart? Are you doing it because your friends are there?

Are you doing it because you are expecting a “miracle” so you are trying to “move” God’s hand? Are you doing it because Jesus commanded it? Because if he hadn’t, you wouldn’t even have signed up?….Ask yourself these questions today… the answer may shock you!!!!

There is no service you give to God, either in your church, home, outside or anywhere else that God isn't interested in.

After all, you are doing it for HIS glory, isn’t it? He wants to get involved in every detail and if you allow HIM, he will show and guide you step by step how to do what you need to do hourly, daily and always.

When was the last time you personally asked God to work through you and make your service acceptable? Not just the usual “church group prayer” but personally because you really want to please HIM? When did you last stop to check that you were still on course and you could feel God’s presence as you were serving? When last was your spirit in tune and you served based by his leading and not what the protocol was?

Whatever we do, we should follow the words of Paul in Colossians 3:23, its no longer important why you signed up, you can re-evaluate why you are there today, recalibrate your mind and serve with the right heart – as unto God, not men. This means that every person you meet is Jesus, or every thing you handle is a product God will “quality-control” to see if it was done with the right heart and motives….. this is the only way to be fruitful and please God.

If you serve with the right motives and heart, you will be fruitful, not just busy.

Being busy means you are expending your physical strength and mind, people are likely to see you and praise you, but if your heart is not where God wants it to be, the thanks, smiles, awards and praise of people are probably the only rewards you are likely to get in most cases.

However, even if the task is minimal and can be done with the smallest effort, but your heart and motivation is in the right place God wants it to be… Your rewards may not be the smiles and awards and praises of people alone, but in addition to those or in spite of the absence of those, you will be bearing fruits that will remain, just like in John 15:16, and I guarantee that when your blessings come in, which they surely will, they will ALWAYS be mind-blowing!!!

Let’s get busy being fruitful today.
