Inspiring Faith, Transforming Lives Through God's Word

When It’s Hot And God Says Stay

As I read Genesis 26, it felt very personal.

There was a famine in the land. Things were hard. Resources were low. The pressure was real. Isaac did what most of us would do – he started moving.

When things get uncomfortable, we look for relief. When work becomes stressful, we update our CV. When the environment feels unstable, we search for somewhere safer. When the economy shakes, we look for quick investments. Movement feels like control. But before Isaac could go further, God appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt. Stay in the land.”

Stay? I repeated that word. In a famine? In lack? In uncertainty? ABBA Father, you can’t be serious, that sounds unreasonable I said.

You see, Egypt represented stability. Egypt had food. Egypt looked safe. Going there would have made sense. But God told him to remain where it was hard. And that hits differently.

Imagine when you are in a job that feels draining. When the workplace is full of dysfunction. When you feel unseen, overworked, underpaid. When you’re tired of giving so much and receiving little. It’s natural to want to escape.

Sometimes the urge to leave is wisdom. But sometimes it is discomfort speaking louder than direction. God did not just say “stay.” He said, “My presence will be with you there.” That changes everything. That’s an assurance right there.

Isaac was about to move toward what looked stable. But God wanted him planted where the promise was. Are you running because it’s uncomfortable? Is God asking you to endure for a reason?

There are seasons when leaving is necessary. And there are seasons when staying builds something deeper in you. The hard part is discernment.

Isaac’s father, Abraham, had also faced famine and went to Egypt. Now Isaac faces a similar test. Would he repeat the pattern, or would he respond differently?

Sometimes God stops us not because the new opportunity is evil but because it is not aligned.

An investment idea may look smart. A new job may look better. A quick escape may look like peace. But if God says stay, then staying becomes protection.

God reminds Isaac of the promise: “I will bless you here.” Not there. Here.

Blessing is not always in the comfortable place. Sometimes it is in the place that stretches you.

This does not mean we tolerate abuse or ignore wisdom. It means we pause long enough to ask: Am I leaving because God released me? Or because I am tired?

Famine tests trust. Pressure reveals where we run. And sometimes the greatest growth happens in the very place we want to abandon.

A Gentle Reflection
Before you make that move… Before you unplug and plug into something new… Before you send that resignation email… Pause. Ask God clearly: Is this wisdom  or is this weariness? Because if God is with you in a place, even a hard place can produce fruit. And if He says stay, He will sustain.

Pray With Me
Father, when I feel the heat, give me clarity. Help me not to run just because it is hard. But also give me courage to move if You release me.

If You are calling me to stay, strengthen me there. If You are preparing something new, confirm it clearly.

Teach me to choose obedience over impulse and trust over fear. Let Your presence be my true security not the appearance of stability. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
