Walking With God Like A Best Friend

I was reading Genesis chapter 5 and going through the long list of names like usual. Then one line made me stop. It wasn’t the names or the words “and he died” that caught my attention. It was this: “Enoch and God walked together as close friends; then God took him to be with Himself.” That sentence stayed in my heart even after I closed my Bible. Enoch didn’t just live his life he lived it with God. And his friendship with God was so strong that one day, God simply took him home.

Everyone else in the chapter is born, lives, has children, and dies. But Enoch’s story is different. He lived, walked with God, and then stepped into God’s presence. This shows us something important: being close to God is not about how long you live, but about how close you are to Him.

Walking with God is like walking with a best friend. When you walk with a friend, you’re not in a hurry. You don’t have to pretend or impress them. Sometimes you talk a lot, and sometimes you’re quiet, but you still feel close. You might be going to school, doing chores, or sitting in a car, but you enjoy being together.

That’s how walking with God looks in real life. It means remembering God while you go about your day. You talk to Him about how you feel. You listen by reading the Bible and paying attention in your heart. You try to do what He says, even when it’s hard.

Enoch didn’t become special because he did big things for God. There are no stories about his miracles or speeches only that he was God’s friend. And that friendship was so real that heaven didn’t feel far away.

God still wants us to walk with Him like that. Just like any friendship, it grows little by little, every day. When God becomes our closest friend, life feels full, and heaven feels closer than we think.
