When Peace Feels Distant

This morning, I woke up with a heavy heart. I couldn’t quite place it. Just a wave of emotions rising quietly, uninvited. I found myself crying, not because of something specific, but simply from weariness. Tired. Emotionally drained.

I tried to pray. I tried to worship. But the words wouldn’t come. So I sat still in the silence, unsure of what I needed, but knowing I needed something more than noise or routine. I just wanted to be. No pretending. No spiritual performance. Just to be still.

So I did what I often do when the fog comes: I picked up my journal and started writing. No filters. No fancy words. Just me, raw and honest. And as I poured out my thoughts, I began to feel something shift inside me. The weight didn’t vanish completely, but it felt lighter. My chest wasn’t as tight. My tears didn’t sting the same way.

In that quiet space, I felt a gentle nudge in my spirit. A reminder I needed:

Your peace must not be tied to people’s responses.

Too often, we allow the reactions (or lack thereof) from others to define our joy. Their silence can feel like rejection. Their applause can feel like affirmation. But both are fleeting. And neither should have the power to determine how we feel about ourselves or our worth.

This morning, I remembered that God sees what others often miss. He sees the love we give. The way we show up. The quiet sacrifices. The emotional labor. The care behind the scenes. Even when people overlook it, God doesn’t.

And He’s not silent.
He’s not absent.
He’s watching.
He’s near.

In due time, He will reward. In His way. In His time.

So, if you’re feeling unseen today, let me gently remind you, don’t let the response of others dictate your peace. Don’t let applause (or the absence of it) define your joy.

Anchor yourself in the truth that God sees, God knows, and God cares. That’s where real peace comes from, not from people, but from the One who never overlooks a single tear.

Maybe today, you too just need to sit still and let God hold your heart.

Your peace is not in their response.
Your joy is not in their recognition.
Your worth is not up for debate.

Let God be enough.
