I was reading through my journal this morning and came across an entry I dated February 2006. As I read it, I felt led to share it, maybe it will bless someone, just as it reminded me again of God’s greatness.
I’ve been sitting with this phrase: “Bless the Lord.”
What does that really mean?
To bless is to give something.
To offer joy.
To pour out love.
And when it comes to God, it means giving Him something that truly touches His heart which is our praise.
But then the question hit me hard: How can I bless the One who created the earth?
Me, so small, so inconsistent, so prone to stumbling in faith. How can I bless a God who is so high, so holy?
But here’s the truth: God created us to praise. And He doesn’t just desire it, He commands it. Not just when it’s easy…But when it’s uncomfortable. When the timing isn’t convenient. When life doesn’t make sense.
A couple of days before writing that journal entry, I felt unusually unsettled.
A heavy cloud rested on my heart, restlessness, mental fog, and spiritual stillness. Even reading the Word felt like a struggle. I kept whispering, “Holy Spirit, give me peace… please bring clarity.”
Then I remembered a moment God had whispered to my heart: “Sit with the book of Psalms. Study David. Find out why he was called a man after my heart.”
So I picked up my Bible and turned to Psalm 135 and as I read, the fog began to lift.
“Praise the Lord… for it is good. Sing praises to His name, for it is pleasant…”
“For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.” (v.3,5)
Right then, it hit me:
I had no reason to worry.
No reason to make my problems bigger than my God. No reason to hold back my praise. Because:
He is GREAT.
He is ABOVE ALL gods.
Above the god of money.
Above health struggles.
Above career anxiety.
Above fear.
Above lack.
He is above it all!
And verse 6 sealed it for me:
“Whatever the Lord pleases, He does— in heaven, in earth, in the seas, and in all deep places.”
Meaning, wherever I am, whatever I’m facing…He commands victory.
All I need to do is what I was created to do: Bless His name.
So today, I choose to bless the Lord. Not because everything is perfect but because of who He is.
Dear friend, be encouraged today. Even when life feels confusing or heavy, your praise still holds power.
God sees you. He is above it all. And He’s working on your behalf. So bless Him anyway especially in the storm.
Your victory is near.
