There’s something sacred about being told, “You were the answer to my prayer.” It’s a moment I’ll never forget.
Someone I had interacted with at work shared that they had asked God to send them someone kind—and unknowingly, I became that person. I was just being myself, doing what I always do. But to them, it was an answered prayer.
That encounter stirred something deep within me. It made me pause and reflect: What if our workplaces are part of our ministry? What if our daily diligence, our integrity, and our compassion are actually divine assignments in disguise?
For a long time, I viewed work as just… work. Routine tasks, difficult people, deadlines, and moments that felt anything but spiritual. But that conversation shifted my perspective completely. I began to see my role through the lens of Colossians 3:23:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
(Colossians 3:23, NIV)
This scripture reminds us that even when we feel unseen, underappreciated, or emotionally drained, God sees it all. He isn’t just present in church services and prayer closets—He walks with us into the workplace. He observes our quiet obedience, our silent sacrifices, our efforts to show up and shine when it would be easier to shrink back.
And the truth is, when we do our work with the awareness of His presence, our work becomes worship.
Romans 12:1 says:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”
(Romans 12:1, NKJV)
Yes, even in that office. Even in that underpaid job. Even when no one says thank you. God receives your faithfulness as a living sacrifice. Every email sent in excellence, every moment of patience with a difficult colleague, every effort to show kindness to someone hurting—it’s all seen and valued by Him.
And even more comforting is this promise:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NIV) He is with you—even at work.
That encounter reminded me that I’m not just showing up for a paycheck—I’m showing up for purpose. I’m showing up as someone God can use to heal, bless, and encourage, even when I don’t realize it.
So to you, the faithful worker who feels unseen…
To you, who shows up with integrity and kindness in a place that doesn’t always acknowledge it…
To you, who feels like your efforts don’t matter…
They do.
You do.
You might just be the answer to someone’s silent prayer.
Let your work become worship. Let your presence become purpose. And trust that Heaven sees what others overlook.
Take a moment to reflect:
Have you ever felt unrewarded in your work? What would shift in your mindset if you saw your workplace as a place of ministry?
A Prayer For You:
Lord, help me to see every part of my life—including my work—as holy ground. Remind me that You are with me wherever I go, and that my work is not in vain. Teach me to serve with joy, to love with purpose, and to be a living example of Your kindness. Amen.
