The story of the Shunammite woman, found in 2 Kings 4:8-37, is a powerful example of faith, trust, and the rewards of maintaining a close relationship with God. Her story teaches a powerful lesson and highlights the importance of having a close relationship with God.
The first lesson I picked was that the Shunamite woman had a heart of hospitality. She recognized the presence of God in the life of Elisha and created a space for him in her home. This teaches us that when we make room for God in our lives—through worship, prayer, and obedience—His presence dwells with us.
Just as she prepared a physical room, we must prepare our hearts and lives to welcome God daily.
Second lesson we can pick is, God sees and rewards a heart that seeks Him. Elisha was moved by her kindness, asked what he could do for her. Though she never asked for anything, he prophesied that she would bear a son. This reminds us that when we prioritize God, He blesses us beyond what we can imagine.
What does this mean? A close relationship with God leads to unexpected blessings. We may not always express our needs, but God sees our hearts.
Third lesson: When our faith is tested, we must learn to trust that God will sustains us.
Years later, her son died suddenly. Instead of despairing, she immediately sought Elisha, refusing to accept defeat. Her words, “It is well” (2 Kings 4:26), reflect her deep trust in God’s power.
What does this mean? A close relationship with God doesn’t exempt us from trials, but it gives us peace and resilience in the face of hardship.
Fourth lesson: Persistence in prayer brings resurrection power.
She clung to Elisha, refusing to leave without a solution. Elisha’s prayers and persistence led to the child’s miraculous resurrection. This mirrors our own spiritual lives—when we persist in seeking God, we experience breakthroughs and restoration.
How can I apply this? A deep relationship with God means trusting Him even when things seem dead—whether it’s a dream, relationship, or opportunity.
Fifth lesson: True worshippers rely on God, not just His servants.
While Elisha was the vessel God used, the Shunammite woman’s trust was ultimately in God alone. She teaches us that a true relationship with God is not just about pastors, churches, or miracles—it’s about knowing Him personally.
In summary, the Shunammite woman’s story shows that intimacy with God brings provision, peace, and power. When we make room for God, trust Him in difficulties, and persist in faith, we experience His miraculous hand in our lives.
Reflection Question:
Where in your life do you need to say, “It is well”, trusting that God is working behind the scenes?

At the point where it seems nothing is working out ,all one can do is to trust God and trust the process, God should also give me the power to stand the test of time…sometimes it just feels like everything around you is falling apart but no ,it is not ,God’s plan for us is greater and the best.we shouldn’t always rely on our strength and not to think it is our strength as well .
