What do you do when life hands you news that shakes you to your core? How do you respond when your heart is suddenly gripped by a pain you never saw coming?
Nineteen years ago, I sat in a doctor’s office, expecting to hear good news about my pregnancy. Instead, I was told that my baby—twelve weeks old—had stopped breathing. The words didn’t register at first. My mind went blank. How could this be? I had been carrying my child, going about my daily routine, unaware that life had already slipped away.
I felt paralyzed, lost in a fog of disbelief. The doctors told me the baby had passed a week earlier. I stood there, dazed, asking, What now?
Was I heartbroken? Yes.
Did I feel forsaken? Absolutely.
Did I cry out to God, asking, Why me? More times than I could count.
Did my tears change the outcome? No.
But in the midst of my grief, I found refuge in God’s word. His promises reminded me that, even in my deepest sorrow, He had not abandoned me. I didn’t understand the why, but I knew His love for me was unshaken. His plans, though beyond my comprehension, were still good.
“I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” — Psalm 16:8
A Prayer for the Brokenhearted Mother
Heavenly Father,
To the mother grieving an unexpected loss, wrap her in Your unfailing love. In moments of sorrow, let her feel Your presence holding her together. Remind her that You are her refuge, her strength, and her peace. Even when the road ahead seems uncertain, may she find rest in knowing that You are always by her side. Strengthen her weary heart and restore her hope in Your perfect plan.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
I pray this encourages you today, dear mother. You are not alone. ❤️
