Our world since the pandemic has been going through an unprecedented uncertainties. Job losses, financial distresses for nations, corporations, families and individuals.
However responses to this situation particularly for individuals and families has made lives worse than ever. Many have resorted to alcoholism, drugs and other antisocial means of suppressing their emotional imbalance.
But God has the best and effective remedy for Man’s emotional exhaustion.
In 1 kings 19:3,11 when Elijah was emotionally exhausted, God led him to do THREE things to help him recover– things that will also help you recover when you’re at the end of your rope.
1. Rest your body.
Sometimes God makes you lie down because you are unwilling to do it on your own. You can’t be spiritually and emotionally strong while you’re physically depleted.
That’s what happened to Elijah. God didn’t scold Elijah. He simply let him sleep.
2. Release your frustrations.
Revealing your feelings is the beginning of healing. Elijah didn’t hold anything back from God. He didn’t filter his feelings. He told God his frustrations.
God isn’t shocked when we complain to him. As an ever loving father, He listens until we run out of words. Let them all out. God can handle anything we throw at Him.
3. Refocus on God.
Elijah like most times how we also experience, focussed on wrong things; he needed to trust God in order to get himself back on his feet.
When you’re struggling with burnout ; it’s often because you’re trying to play God and control everything. But when you refocus on God, you realise he’s in control. You can stop exerting your own control.
If you’re emotionally exhausted today, God hasn’t forgotten you. Just like he did to Elijah, God is ready and willing to help you also. Matthew 11:28-29 Jesus is inviting you to come and have your desired rest from every emotional exhaustion.
